The required answers:

1. PC will be used for: S/W Development using Team System and SQL Server. Light gaming: FFXI. Video Capture and DirecTV 2 PC.

2. Budget: Less than $1,000

3. Purchase from: US - Newegg and maybe Frys.

4. Fan of: Prior AMD fan and currently have a 939, but probably going with Intel now. Nvidia Video cards, EVGA.

5. Existing parts: Maxtor SATA2, 300 gig

6. Have I read other threads: surely

7. Overclocking: Maybe, but prefer stability. I did OC my 939.

8. Timeframe: Will start purchasing parts in a week or so over course of a month or two.

Case: Antec 900 - I like the size. My current rig if full tower. This close in size.
Power: Corsair. Heard they are quiet, but not sure what size needed.
CPU: E8400 Wolfdale 3.0 Ghz
MB: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
Vid: EVGA 9800GT 512MB
RAM: Corsair 4gig, 2x2G DDR2 800 ( PC2 6400)
DVD: Samsung 22x DVD+/-R with lightscribe black SATA
HSF: stock
Sound: on board.
Monitor: Prolly Acer 22 around 1680 x 1050.

I don't need 2 monitors and I prefer Nvidia, thus reason for not going Radeon.

So, need help with size of power supply.

Help and opinions are appreciated!

Thanks..

For vid capture, is that purely dependent on the CPU vs the Video card? I think anything will be better than my 939, but I do like to get best bang for the buck rather than over spend on parts that will drop 25% in a month.

I rate the build 3.75 out of 10... for lack of originality.
It's yet another generic box.

lol. Blain, I have no time to play my xbox as I am doing s/w dev. at home. I need a solid box that is pretty fast. I surely don't want to spend top dollar for parts that will come down in price very soon. Not to mention, paying for a car for my daughter, and saving for college.

Thanks for the useful response...

Anyone else?

I'm backing off on my case decision.. I feel, I should look it over before purchasing. Once thing, I really don't need all the lights and such..so, I am reevaluationg. I like the looks of the CM Cosmos and heard a new version has helped cooling.

Any opinions...maybe I should just move over to cases...

I've had a Cosmos 1000. It's HUGE & HEAVY.
It looks great in review photos, but in real life is just a beast.

Don't get me wrong, the design and air flow are great. But it should have been downsized a bit and built out of aluminum.

The Antec Nine Hundred would make a good case for you or a Silverstone TJ10-SW on the high end.

i have a cosmos rc-1000 and i like it enough to cut it up and watercool it. i like the sleek design and especially the handles for carrying. you can fit ANYTHING into it. but it is VERY HEAVY and BIG. but i bought it with the idea of doing a wc configuration and with this much room theres plenty to play around with. now if i could get another job to pay for the parts so i could finish it. damn economy. oh and its also very quiet comparatively. since the release of this one they have done some other releases with minor changes.
yes its a beast but i have to say i swell with pride when people see it and go HOLY S#@T!

Interesting... I also saw the Antec P182 which seem nice as well. I need to take a look regardless.

My current box is a full tower. One thing I like about it is the motherboard tray. I don't think the Cosmos has this or the P182. It also is heavy, but I also have it on wheels.

Thanks for the input!!!
