We tend to be gouged by retailers North of the border, and for computer hardware, that's no exception. The guides published here are good, but not particularly useful for Canadians, as we don't have access to the same sales, etc.

[thread=2377713]You seen[/thread] this site? They have a Canada option.

It's not a bad resource, but I think you'd probably overspend almost every time if you just took parts straight from their list.

It is a good ranker to get a idea of where components are comparing to their peers. But many of those builds are not the very best you can do for that budget.

Edit: One more quote:
So, would it be helpful to US Enthusiasts? Some what

However it has a lot of value to Enthusiasts from other countries.

But since you asked for a guide, rather than [thread=80121]telling us about the build you want[/thread], and you didn't even specify a price range, that's about the best I can do.

Oh, and if you select a few parts from there, you can put them together here.

I don't think we are gouged. Checkout the NCIX weekly sales for good prices on a wide variety of parts.

I've used Newegg.ca, canadacomputers.com, infonec, cendirect and shoprbc among others.

shopbot.ca, pricebat.ca and infoprix.ca (if you read French) can help you find prices.

check out newegg and ncix as their prices are fairly good and run a lot of specials. avoid the big box stores, future shop and best buy...they rarely discount on parts.

Actually, if I remember correctly, bestbuy.ca was selling the CoolerMaster K280 case for $50 (or $55) with free shipping. I got one from bestbuy.ca and realized later it was quite a deal. Even though I gave it somewhat lukewarm review later I ended up browsing sites to see if I could find something more appealing at the price. I couldn't. I mean the HAF model is bigger and looks a little compared to the K280. Now I'm convinced the CoolerMaster K280 is a very good case to get. (Seems out-of-stock on a lot of sites though.)
