Not a bad deal at all! Sweet package, decent size for 15.4", and X700 GPU!

If anyone is interested in this model, we are selling the one used in the DIY article; complete with 2GHz Turion & 60GB 7200RPM drive! Check it out here!

another nifty article from ur site, i like the way u guys are covering laptop topics. i remember when the 12" msi barebone came out. that was...many months ago. and i always wished some site was showing the simplicity of DIY notebook building.
one point of critizism: why didnt you bench the machine after u put it together? some games, overall battery life, keyboard quality, tft quality regarding gaming issues etc.
maybe part two or sumthing :)

Thanks for the comments :)

This was more meant to be a guide to building your own barebones. I agree we should do a follow review on it, but there are so many things packed into our review schedule it might not be possible. However we do have a LOT of users in the forum who bought these, so feel free to poll them a bout quality/performance :)

can anyone give me a list of sites where I can see the different laptop barebones that are available in the market and how much they cost. Thanks.

wow, thats expensive hot stuff.

now, and thats of course just an idea ;) but how about a: "14" and smaller - roundup" or a special or sumthing. Becuz i seem to notice a trend towards smaller and really portable notebooks, and i call it portable when u can actually carry it TOGETHER with the rest of the stuff u need at work or at the university. Its just a pain when u have to carry a 6-7 pound notebook together with library books, sports clothes (for universtiy sports or whatever), food and drink, you will end up looking like a backpacker.
Iam a student myself at the university and I see lot of girls carrying huge machines on their humps, they have to tie it with kensington locks in the library cuz its not light enough to just carry it around whenever they have to leave their seats etc.
Plus, the lighter notebooks have always been a lot more expensive. This is changing today and there are some good alternatives to choose from in the 1k price range
lets say
MSI 260 vs. Amilo M6453G <- very new model, dunno if thats available outside of europe (?) (specs: http://www.geizhals.at/deutschland/?fs=Amilo+M6453G&x=0&y=0&in=)
vs. Apple G4 (http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects...B0iVBg/0.SLID?nclm=iBook&mco=3A04605C)

like i said, just an idea or a wish for 2006 though ;) and i would agree, maybe there arent enough attractive models for a roundup out yet.
