Build your own home in the Poconos?

My parents are seriously considering that since so many people offer custom homes for so cheap there ($150,000 for a 4 bedroom with land!)- anyone ever does this? This sounds like there must be a catch - anyone know what the deal is? We live in NYC so my parents are considering it for a summer home/possible retirement place..

150K is probably overpriced in some areas of the poconos. I have seen some damn cheap land in that area.

Well, I've seen much cheaper houses (as low as $80,000) but I'm talking about a really nice place with jacuzzi's, 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, gorgeous wood floors, etc... Do you know anything about the area? I imagine it must be dead during non ski-peak seaons.. Is it a hell hole or something for everything to be so cheap?

Sorry, it's a region of PA that's pretty popular during the winter.. I don't know much about the area though.. Driven by there but never spent time there..

The Pocano's are a very nice mountain area in Pennsylvania. I stayed in a 3 bedroom condo out there last year when I went to NYC because I got the condo for the entire WEEK for $200 😉 It's only about an hour and change drive to New York City, and I might add that just a bit south, maybe 3 or 4 miles, there is the *best* Italian restaurant on the face of the earth. Tiny little hole-in-the-wall place, of course! 🙂
