A couple of weeks ago I posted plans for my new build here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2097307

Based on feedback I got at that time, and more research and poking around newegg, I've modified my original plans to the following:

CPU: AMD Athlon2 X4 640 Propus 3GHz
Motherboard: Asus M4A88TD-V AMD 880G
RAM: CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
SS Drive: OCZ Vertex 2 60GB
PSU: COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M600
Case: COOLER MASTER CM690 II
OS: Win7 Home Premium 64-bit

I'll supplement this with a couple of optical drives and a 500GB SATAII drive I already have.

The cost, after combo deals and shipping, is ~$700, with $40 in rebates, so $660 final. I feel like I've got a pretty good balance of price/features/performance. My goal isn't to have an absolute screamer, but something on the high side of average, that will have some legs.

Yes, I know I don't have a video card. I'm going to start w/the onboard video and add a separate card in a month or two. I'm thinking 5770 or better.

So, how's this look?

You should have stayed with the Corsair memory or at least some DDR3 that was rated at 1.5v or less.
I didn't see anyone in your linked thread recommend that OZC "stuff" (I'm being polite).

I would only rely on Newegg reviews if the rest of the internet was down for service.

i wondered about that. got it for the combo price w/win7. it did get good reviews on the egg - is it really that bad? if so i'll switch back to the corsair. i've had corsair on a lot of rigs and it never let me down ...

I wouldn't touch OCZ DDR3 with a 10' pole. Maybe they've gotten better with the newer kits, but it's not worth the potential headache when there are many quality kits for around the same price (albeit without the $20 windows combo). Some Corsair or G.Skill would be great.

The PSU looks like a really good deal though. Jonny like it quite a lot. His only major complaint was that is was a poor value, which $50 off pretty much takes care of that!

BTW this will be partially paid for by selling off the (still working) parts of my old rig. anybody interested in a thermaltake xaser III case w/lighting mods, a p4 2.4, a pair of corsair xms pro ddr pc3200 512mb stiicks, or a pny gt6800?

dammit. i got busy and didn't get the order placed. i guess combo deals must expire a the end of the month. price went up $60. hate to pay that much more when i know it'll go down again some time. guess i'll have to wait ... and pick stuff up piecemeal as it goes on sale again. humbug.
