Hi people. not much response to my other post, so i'll try a slightly different one.
I've got around 1000 bucks to spend on building a new computer..not including monitor, i'm taking my 19" KDS with me to college along with this new comp. anyways, tell me what you guys would put into this computer. it will be used for college work and gaming of course. i had a few things in mind but nothing really solid, maybe an Athlon 1Ghz or more cpu, some kind of geforce2 card, 256 mb ddr ram probably. im not actually paying for this beast, so up to 1000 bucks is fine including shipping. anyways, i thank you in advance for any tips.

thanks
ryan

NOT sure on prices atm but i believe all this is under $1000

1Ghz aMD t-bird
Epox 8k7a mobo
256mb ram
Geforce 2 PRO
Acoustic Edge Sound card
What size case u want? if u want small get a Enlight Medium ATX Tower Case Model EN-72370X3. if u want med - large get a antec SX1030
get either a LITE-ON 16x DVD or a pioneer 16x.
Floppy
NIC
30GB MAXTOR HARD DRIVE 7200rpm
i believe thats it unless u want a CD-WRITER

im guessing the price for that system is (remember price is with the smaller case). $750-$800

CD-WRTER is about $100 that would put u about $900. for extra $30 i believe u can get a 1.2Ghz CPU.

remember i just tried to guess on the price. not sure if its 100% right

Well, here's what I'd go for:

Athlon 1.2GHz-C for 'bout $100
Abit KG7-RAID/Gigabyte GA-7DXR $200
512MB of Crucial PC2100 DDR $80
nVidia GeForce2 Pro $150 or so
2x30GB WD 7200RPM Hard Drives $200 or so and setup a RAID 0 array using the on-board RAID
A 400W PS Tower Case $75 or so
Generic Floppy Drive $10
Creative 52X CD Drive, as little as $20
Creative SB Live! Value $50 or so
Generic Speakers $10

That's for between 800-900, $100 should be plenty for shipping. For the lowest prices on all this, go to www.pricewatch.com

ohh ya if i am right about the price being about $800..

Lite On LTR-1610B 16x10x40 CD-RW Driver is $100 shipped at newegg (mihgt find cheaper some other places).

so i would get that and maybe a extra 256mb stick or ram (so that would be 512)

What OS you going to use?

if u need speakers i might sell u my FPS 2000 (have stands and speakers, wires, sub no box tho and they have been used alot. but still work GREAT. i guess i can sell for $80 shipped. (its 4 speakers and a sub)

send me a PM if u want.
