I ignorantly posted in the wrong forum so I am posting here, properly now.

So work is allowing me to build a PC for us to render videos for training purposes. We'll be using Adobe Creative Cloud suite for editing all the things! This is within the USA and build will happen within 2 weeks. May or May not overclock but if it will help with rendering then yes I will. Have all the peripherals and software in a separate budget.

I had this picked out but I am open to suggestions;

Budget for the PC is around $800, I have a little wiggle room. Doesn't need to be pretty just needs to chew video up quickly.

For those not wanting to click through;
Processor - 4790K
Cooler - Old reliable 212 EVO
MB - ASRock Z97 Pro4
RAM - G.Skill Ares DDR3 1600
Storage (a) - Sandisk Z400s 256GB
Storage (b) - Seagate 1TB 7200RPM
Case - NZXT Source 210
PSU - Corsair Builder 500W
Optical - Samsung SH-118CB

You shouldn't be building a PC for work. Unless the building is for training purposes, not the videos. Ideally you should get something from a major OEM with support.

Searching listings is hard on a phone but here's something: http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16883101228

That just takes me to the flash sale.

When I created the business case I provided OEM options. That is not what operations chose.

OK, then. Either Operations is unwise, or they want you as a scapegoat if something goes wrong. :p

I would have gone with a 5820K if I thought I could have fit it in the budget, with an Nvidia video card to accelerate certain Adobe functions. But a 6700K will be better for preparations for rendering in Adobe anyway. You can overclock this, but if you do it's on your head if it fails.

He's saying you should be purchasing a pre-built PC from a major manufacturer (eg, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, etc) so that all support/warranty issues are their responsibility instead of yours. FWIW, I completely agree.

On top of that, you haven't provided an OS yet, and unless you intend to use Linux or an existing Windows license, that is additional cost that will need to be included. Factor in the time/hassle of rebates, assembling the PC, and installing the OS, and that OEM PC is suddenly a lot cheaper.

I understood exactly what he meant :) the purpose of the business case is to provide a problem, we needed a computer devoted to video rendering, and viable solutions which I offered that included 2 pre-built PCs. The budget for software is separate as it will include a windows license, Adobe creative cloud for a year etc.
