Hi Everyone,

My EVGA nforce 780i SLI Motherboard (A1 Version, NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express 2.0, Dual Gigabit LAN, S/PDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, Serial ATA, RAID) recently burnt out, and I can't seem to find the same model online at Newegg or TigerDirect. I was wondering, since that part seems to be discontinued, are there any other comparable motherboards that offer about the same, or even slightly improved, performance? I'll list my other components below for compatibility concerns. Also, I'm more than willing to replace my DDR2 RAM with DDR3 RAM parts, which will likely alter the suggestions you may give.

GPU: PNY GeForce GTX 280 Video Card - 1GB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, VGA Support

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor HH80562PH0568M - 2.40GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Kentsfield, Quad-Core, OEM, Socket 775, Processor

RAM: DDR2 800

Thanks in advance, any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum :)

It's upgrade time it looks like. You would be better off selling the cpu and memory and getting something more current I'd think. It's gonna be hard to find a decent s775 motherboard these days.

Live in the US? If so near a microcenter?

Thanks for the greeting. :) I was originally considering fully upgrading, but was a bit put off when I read more in-depth about the capabilities of next-gen consoles. It might be hard to build a reasonably price PC that has comparable performance as far as the memory architecture of the console goes. I could be wrong, but I'm mostly basing this off of what I read at Digital Foundary (over at Eurogamer.com) haha. That being said, a full upgrade is looking more and more like the only logical conclusion. Also, I do live in the US, but have never heard of microcenter.

I wouldn't worry to much about the new consoles....They pretty much just play games. Not saying they are going to be bad but they don't really compare to a PC anyways.

It's worth a look to see if you have a microcenter close to you. They have some pretty good deals on combos. There is a drop down box in the center that has the locations. http://www.microcenter.com/
