Bought a Q9550 some time ago at MC, along with a Gigabyte X48-DS5 from Newegg, and some A-Data DDR2-800 at Frys. Been sitting on my shelf.

Should I build it and keep it? Build it and sell it? Or just sell the parts (still nib)?

(I had a pair of these sets of parts, but I sold one already.)

So … you're buying computer parts and they're just sitting on the shelf?

Larry … Larry … … we need to have a talk. :)

I would probably sell it if you can. You already have a quad core at 3.6Ghz. Save the money for a future upgrade to an i5-750 or an i7 on a 1156 M/B.

I agree. If you really needed the power of a Q9550 you probably would have built it by now. Sell it and save the money for when you really do need an upgrade.

When comparing the clock for clock performance, the 9450 2.66 12MB does not outperform the Q6600 2.4 6MB by that much when the ~ 11% difference in clock rate is factored in … Anand benches

Minimum upgrade in my view really would be an i5-750, or better yet, an i7-860 (4 cores + hyperthreading).

I see you already have 3 systems, and one of them with a 3.6Ghz Q6600. Unless you actually have some need to build another system, I woudl just sell the parts. Either buy an I7 later this year, or look into Sandybridge next year.

you already have 3 old systems. you should sell the cpu online for more than you paid for it and get i7 930

I would stick that q9550 into your setup and sell everything else.

I would sell it for new and use the money for a newer build. You could probably wait until Sandy Bridge next year to build a new system at this point.

Yes, I have slight "hoarding" issues. I buy more computer parts than I really need. (I bought SIX of those combos from MC. One 720BE, one 555, and some 630s. But I'm building the AMD rigs and attempting to sell them.)

since socket 775 is essentially dead upgrade-wise, here's another vote toward selling it.
Still fast enough to where you might be able to get some reasonable money for it.
