Hi,

I'm testing some business model designs around a VR arcade like this one:
http://www.level1vr.com/

But focusing on cooperative games (like bridge crew), where 4 people in the same ~12x12 space can work together. (Using oculus + touch).

The biggest tech difficulty here is making sure there is up-time during (hopefully) constant gaming use.

Proper chairs, tables, and theming are all also things I need to nail down.

A plan for upgrading over time would be good as well.

Im looking to produce something that just blows my customers away - and does the one thing it does very very well - so if it'll help improve the experience don't spare the expense.

Any help is much appreciated.

It all depends on the value proposition and thus price/demand.

Thus the importance of building something that will really blow customers away.

ypou need tocomoute your per diem cost then figure out how much you need to charge to break even. andutilization rate is way lower than you think.

rent is going to kill you

Nah, arcades make bank. You could charge a lot per session because people will pay it to experience VR.

The key is having access to high-flow foot traffic, especially with young people who are willing to shell out $10 or $20 for a 20-minute VR session. Things like paintball & laser tag already do that and have plenty of success. Although I don't know where you'd put it...malls aren't really too popular anymore for kids to hang out in...

I was pricing it out here ( ar laser tag ) and it was 30 per sqft per year. I cannot run it out of industrial space, like dance studios can.

If you could find a spot near an existing laser tag location that would be awesome.
So our local malls have started to turn into geek-shops. We've got board games, escape rooms, hot topic, laser tag, something i'm calling 'big air soft' a place where you can play video games.

Having all that similar traffic can help drive utilization.

If anyone goes to movie theaters anymore, that was always a great place for the tweens... Before and after movies, they can be a captive audience with disposable income to burn if they're being dropped off/picked up by parents and have a few minutes to kill. You just have to be careful because any tech you deploy will have to reach its ROI very quickly or they won't be impressed as things progress. I doubt they'll be all that impressed if the graphics aren't stellar.

Oh that would be an awesome location, your biggest market is already being drawn there.

Right, malls all over the country are failing, why? because they fail to appeal to the new geek-overlord. We have won my friends! Smart is sexy, comic books are cool, and people make more money playing video games than playing foot ball!
