I have an EVGA 8800GT SSC on the way. My current computer is old and going to be re-built as a server for the wife to browse the internet. I need new components, please recommend specific brand, etc because there are so many, reading these roundups is making my head spin.

My original thinking was to get 2 8800GT's and SLi them, seeing as how they would cost the same as the 8800GTX but have more performance? I decided to start with one and see how things go. I've read some of the recommendation threads and they mostly steer people away from SLI so now I'm even more undecided than when I started.

Video: eVGA 8800GT SSC already ordered, possible second one for SLI???
MB: Depends if I should SLI or not. Recommendations for each way?
RAM: no idea of brand, timings, etc, DDR2 I suppose, not extremely expensive
CPU: Was thinking Core2 Duo 6850 since this is for gaming only, most bang for buck
Overclocking: I was not planning to overclock unless it's way-easy-super-stable.

General thinking on budget is that I want that sweet spot between performance and price. i.e. I would never pay $1000 for an Intel Extreme processor, etc. I also want Crysis to look as good and play as smooth as is possible.

One last question, are there any upcoming hardware releases that I should wait for within the next 6 weeks?

P35 mobos are good these days.

for ram, really can't go wrong these days, some crucial ballistix would be good

for the cpu, i'd go with the E6750 for almost 100 bucks cheaper and OC it. really not that hard. just read the guide in the CPU forum sticky.

crysis isn't gonna be SUPER smooth unless you got SLI 8800 Ultras. SLI 8800gt's would grab u about 50 fps.

penryns are coming out in january, might wanna wait for those. 8800gts 1gb is coming out dec 3. thats about it.

I'm having problems with Newegg for some reason - half the site is coming up with index errors.

Is the PCI Express 2.0 an issue? Do I need to wait for the new Nvidia 7xx chipsets which for some reason don't seem to be out yet? From what I can tell, the only way to run Nvidia type SLI is via an Nvidia motherboard? Is this because the slots aren't lined up correctly or something? If I'm using the SLI board to connect the cards, does that make the PCI Express version irrelevant?

Newegg has been having problems since 12:01am yesterday when their BF deals went up. Not that it's to be expected, but it isn't surprising. You may need to reload a few times but eventually you'll get what you need...
