Right, so I've been looking to build myself a new gaming computer. I've got $1800 CAD to spend, but pretty much no clue what spend it on! So I'm turning to you computer guru's for help building my dream machine.

Mostly I would be using this computer for gaming, surfing the net, and chatting. I play a fair number of games, and I wouldn't mind being able to enjoy something like Battlefield 2 with maximum settings.

Remember, I'm on a budget, the $1,800 Canadian dollars I have must include tax, and shipping. Shipping must be able to go to Canada, because I live there.

So I challenge you guys to make the best gaming machine possible with the limited resources at my disposal.

Are you in a rush? The new socket M AMD's are expected to come out soon. you would be buying outdated hardware. >.<

But anyhow if u are here is what i would get
If u already have a good monitor, id probably do this

DFI UT NF4 SLI
Dual Core Opty that fits socket 949 or AMD X2 3800+ if u know how to Overclock. Or 4400+ if you dont.
300gig 16meg 7200rpm WD's or Maxtor, whatever is your choice.
2 gigs of OCZ platnium Ram.

Now your video card is where it gets tricky:
As of this moment, your best bang for the buck would be a 7800GT. Make sure u get a decient company, and one that supports SLI incase u want to upgrade. Then u can just add another 7800GT when your budget allows.

Any case of choice..
Power supply: seasonic 400W or 500W class.
Any DVD+-RW
Any DVD-ROM

IF you need a NEW MONITOR:
Yikes, this should be the single most expensive piece in your hardware. i honestly dont care if you have the quad SLI 7800GTX from dell. If ur running a POS 15inch LCD where max res. is like 1024x768, YOU WILL NEVER NEED SUCH A GODLY VIDEO HARDWARE.
Do yourself some justice and get a 20inch or even 24inch b4 you build your system.

I am in no need of a monitor, keyboard, speakers, or mouse. So you don't have to include those. :D

As for the things you suggested aigomorla, from all the looking I've been doing, that would probably cost me over 1800 Canadian. I don't think I'd be able to afford it all, and pay for shipping.

Now what is this "Socket M AMD" I've never heard of it before. Is it good for gaming? Pricey? Dual core?

Primarily I'm looking to be running games like Oblivion.

That doesn't mean I absolutely need the best of the best, if I can still run games like Oblivion and Battlefield 2 with a decent 30 fps, I'm happy.

Ummm lets do the math.

1,800.00 CAD Canada Dollars = 1,561.28 USD
United States Dollars
1 CAD = 0.867379 USD 1 USD = 1.15290 CAD

DFI LAN Party UT NF4 Sli-D Motherboard ~ 157.00
AMD64 Processor your choice in processors. If possible go dual core 150~399
Maxtor or WD Hard Drive ~ 115
OCZ Ram ~ 219
Case ~ 100
PSU ~ 120
Geforce 7800GT ~299

Now add everything
157 + 200(average) + 115 + 100 + 120 + 299 = 991 Total + ~75 shipping = 1066. Now u can either upgrade the CPU or get matching DVD+-RW. to iron out the budget.

PS. the new Socket M is the new form factor to the AMD line processors. the FX-60 is the offical last release of socket 949. U can garentee prices for 949 will drop when socket M comes out. So if u can afford to wait a bit, a few months to be exact, you can build the simular rig i described for cheaper.

Use pricewatch.com / Froogle (under google.com) to find parts for cheaper.
ALSO I WILL ADD VERY IMPORTANTLY!! USE RESELLERRAITINGS.COM to verify the place ur gonna buy are somewhat reputable.
