Build me a ~1500 Gaming Rig

what kind of monitor do you have and at what res you run it at, that way you can be recommended the proper vidcard

Q6600- 530
Gigabyte DS3 - 130
Seagate 400GB 7200.10 - 120
DVD-RW SATA - 40
Lian-Li PC-7B+ - 90
Corsair 620W Power supply - 150
Geforce 8800GTS 320 - 270
2 Gigs DDR2 - 130
1460 dollars + shipping

could easily replace Q6600 with a E6600 and save money, then boost the video card to an 8800GTS-640 or so.

Also if you are doing vista 4 gigs of ram is a good idea, makes things really snappy

for OS, I recommend Vista Home Premium 64 bit. 32 Bit Vista doesn't really add any added reliability, and is less of a long term OS IMO.

If you want to stay with XP, do 32 bit xp, 64 bit has alot of driver issues.

If you don't mind a temporary setup you could get the cheapest core 2 possible (with an 8800gts 640) and then pick up the q6600 after the next pricecut (late summer). Also I would not build any gaming machine until the 14th when the nda's on teh 2900 series are up, as even if the 2900xtx is a poor competitor for the 8800gtx, it should affect prices and the 2900xt looks like a solid competitor for the 8800gtx so it might be an option and at the least should cause some price adjustments.

hmm i'm going to borrow this thread for a bit...

I'm looking to put together a rig of my own as well,I was wondering if the PSU i choose would be suffiecient to run it.

PSU=Enermax Liberty 500watts
CPU=E6600
GPU=8800GTX
RAM=2*1gb DDR2 Corsair 667
MOBO=Gigabyte DS3
HDD=SATA2 Seagate 320gb
Case=Lian-li PC-07B

Is there any reason not to go with this particular configuration?any change of spec i should consider?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

regards,
Swaye

p.s Thanks T.S.
