Hey everyone. I am upgrading my computer for Guild wars 2 and Star wars old republic this year.

I currently have a e8400 setup which runs current games, but the system has been graphically unstable and have been looking for an excuse to upgrade for a while now.

I have already bought a case COOLER MASTER HAF 932
And PSU
SeaSonic X650 (Love Seasonic never had a problem with them)

From here is when I am lost. I spent a little more on the first two items because I want them for longevity. I plan on using my rig mainly for gaming and HTPC. I plan on OCing as well. This is what I am planning on getting. Budget may be about 1200 not including what I already bought.

i5-2500k or i7-2600k? Not sure which one to get.

As far as motherboards go I have been turned off by ASUS. Had nothing but problems over the years. Any recommendation would be appreciative for this. GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD3 LGA 1155 Intel P67 Was looking at this one.

Video Card: SAPPHIRE 100312SR Radeon HD 6950 2GB Mainly for 2 gig ram

Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Might go to 1333 Whats your thoughts?

SSD: I havent done any research into SSDs yet so I'm not sure where to go with this.
Getting this for storage Western Digital Caviar Black WD1501FASS 1.5TB.

Cooler:
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212

Other components like dvd roms and what not arent really important.

do you need to get an OS or monitor with that 1200?

were you planning to unlock the 6950 to a 6970?

You can unlock it to a 6970? Is that hard to do? I would definatly do this if it wont destroy the card. And yes the OS is part of it i will add it real quick. Honestly my budget isn't very strict at the moment. Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM

Already have a monitor.

Well they are re-doing the 6950 so you CANT unlock it, but with current cards you can unlock the shaders by flashing it to a 6970 and then i believe you flash it back to a 6950 (for voltage) but the shaders stay unlocked. ;)

I put in a bluray player since you mentioned HTPC duties, but if you don't want that, you can knock $53 off and get a $17 dvd burner

The samsung drive is $20 cheaper, 500GB larger and has MUCH better reviews than the WD

I know 5400 drives got a bad rap back in the day, but with the insane platter densities of 1.5+TB drives it doesn't matter so much. It's even faster than an old velociraptor. Plus with the system and apps on the SSD, the speed of the HD isn't so critical

I like the choices here. Seems the OCz is a very nice ssd. Are the new SSDs coming out going to be that much more superior though?

Yes, but you are looking at waiting a few months at least probably 2 for intel and 4 for sandforce. But you probably wont notice it anyway. up to you.

Eh if they are coming out in a few months I don't really care to wait. Right now my rig has been bugging me for months with the graphic errors in games. I have that god awful stutter error in games that seems to have no resolution in 2 years. Really sucks when it happens playing HoN and WOW.

yea, current SSD's are fast enough for the average joe anyway, especially coming from 7,200rpm HDD.

Nice build. Are you planning on using that trackball for gaming? That would be strange.

Yeah I have been using this type of track ball since 98 or 99 for gaming, haven't gone back. Its great in my opinion. Just use your thumb and its very precise. Your wrist doesn't get tired either. Good product to help you not get CTS.

Wow I can't imagine using a trackball for gaming, but if it works for you that's great. :p

It also has serious issues, I would stick with the proven Samsung
The only serious issue they might have is that they're no good for any RAID setup (except for some software RAID), since they don't have TLER.

Or are you talking about something else?
