Build Dilemma

I have $1200 right now to build a new computer, primarily for ArmA 2 when it comes out. The developers have stated that the game will benefit greatly from a quad core CPU, so there's no doubt that I will be going that route.

Of course, the Yorkfield processors have been out for some time now, and I would be entering the game rather late if I choose, say, a Q9550. But if I go with an i7, I will be paying a lot more just for compatible motherboards and DDR3 RAM.

Yes, I know you can't "future-proof" a build (we've heard that cliche too many times), but there is such a thing as buying intelligently at the right time.

So the question is: when will i7s become the "norm," and when will Yorkfields start phasing out? Should I wait a little longer for i7 components to drop in price?

Thanks for any help.

If you need to upgrade now, then buy now.
If you've just "got the upgrade itch", hold off and save.

Well, look at my current rig. It's not exactly able to perform well in today's games, etc...So by that account, I "need" to upgrade. But if it would be smarter to wait just a few more weeks, then by all means, I can do that. And that leads back to my original question.
