The lbs per hp didn't workout so well with the new miata vs brz, with the miata having less power per weight yet magically being faster.

It's not magical. It's called torque.

BR-Z is 2764 lbs and 200hp so 13.82 lbs/hp.
Miata is 2332 lbs and 155hp so 15 lbs/hp. Not too far off.

However, if you compare the torque ratings, the BR-Z makes 151 lb-ft and the Miata is at 148. So the Miata actually has a huge torque to weight advantage over the BR-Z. Combine that with the fact that the BR-Z doesn't reach peak torque until 6400 RPM, and it's not surprising that the Miata would be faster.

The GT350 and base Corvette have almost the same horsepower to weight ratio, but the Corvette is way ahead in terms of torque : weight. So the Corvette may very well end up faster.

I paid about 59k for my 2015 stingray (1LT, Z51, M7, Magnetic Ride, Comp Seats, w/ blacked out wheels/mirrors/spoiler). That's about 9-10k in options. A tech package GT350 is very similar in price... and I expect it to be very similar in performance. I'd love to have one (that engine sounds great). I might look into trading for one in the distant future. That being said, I love being able to take the top off the vette... and I wouldn't be able to do that with the GT350.

I have to believe they will be somewhat similar in performance but the vette will probably win on the road course with 400-500lbs less weight and the additional torque.
