1. used for. - Mainly gaming / schoolwork / Photoshop

2. budget . - Around $900. Really don't want to enter $1000 territory

3. country . - USA, newegg

4. brand preference. - Intel / Nvidia
5. current parts - Using current PSU , DVD drives, HDDs

OC'ing later on for a performance boost, probably not when I first buy it..

8. What resolution - 1920x1200

9. WHEN - Soon, hopefully :)

Case ( $100 )
COOLER MASTER HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN1-GP Black Steel + Plastic and Mesh Bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

CPU + Cooling combo ( $244 )
i5 2500K / Hyper 212
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.584425

Mobo ( $153 )
ASRock P67 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

RAM ( $110 )
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL

GPU ( $280 )
EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1563-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support ...

Total: $886

My current GPU (GTX 260 :S) just gave out so I need to buy a new one, and the rest of my computer is circa ~2005 so I figured it's time for a new rig. I've read about problems with the ASUS / Gigabyte P67 boards so I opted for the ASRock which seems fine, also it can SLI if I ever wanted to down the road. The i5 / 212 combo seems highly recommended so I also picked that one.

As for GPU, I'm seeing a lot of people saying a 460 doesn't have enough power for high quality+res gaming so I decided on the 560 Ti which fits into my price range. My budget is met just wondering if there are other parts I should pick instead.

I'm also hearing things about problems with SATA / Sandy Bridge processors so should I wait? I heard it won't be fully fixed until April and waiting that long would kinda suck. Should I just buy the GPU and wait on the rest?

Thanks!

Looks good in concept, though I wouldn't pay that much for 8GB of RAM. Swap it out with these:
G.Skill DDR3 1333 8GB $80

Looks like your 560 has dropped $30 in price as well. I'm personally not too worried about the Sandy Bridge SATA issue. 5% chance that a few of your SATA ports will die in three years seems fine to me.

intel says 5-15% failure rate is possible. Also if the ports are failing you have to hope the read/write errors are all caught before your files are corrupted.

So a maximum of 15% chance ONE of 4 sata 3gb/s ports goes bad in 3 years.

3 months....? What? They aren't doing a mass recall, this isn't a recall at all. The fixed chipset will be out in feb and most people won't be affected by the bug anyway.

Intel said february... And the current mother boards work fine, a 5-15% chance of one sata 3gb/s port failing in 3 years....

Troll harder. Do you understand the definition of the word "concept"?
What the hell are you even talking about?

I was referring to your "personally i wouldnt worry about the sata issues", I agree that he or anybody else shouldn't worry about it; but the sata issues are entirely irrelevant to him as he cannot get his hands on the SB mobos/cpus.

jesus..

Intel is doing damage control; and if it's February than it's gonna be late in the month...and what part of you can't get your hands on current mobos do you not understand my friend?

I guess you're not too good at reading and comprehending the relationship between two (short) paragraphs. Let me quote and bold again:
