Build a x86 system that uses Boot Camp to run OS X and XP?

I've always wanted to build a machine that runs both operating systems. The hacked ways always kind of confused me and they seemed a little sketchy. But now with Boot Camp, I feel like this is a pretty easy way to accomplish my goal. Do I have to build a system that uses EFI or can I get around that some how?

I don't think you're allowed to run Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware.
