My significant other needs a new system. Im trying to look for stability and warrenty on these parts, as well as cheap price. Her only needs are net surfing, email, im, Word and such small stuff.

Codegen Case Model L-6042-1-S2F With 400W - $29
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.33GHz 266MHz -$40
Buffalo Technology 256MB PC2100 DDRAM - $39
SAMSUNG 1.44MB FLOPPY DRIVE - $6.99
SAMSUNG 40GB 7200RPM Light and Slim HDD Model# SP0411N - $59
ZIPPY WK-888 (BEIGE) Palm-Rest Multimedia Computer Keyboard with 8 Built-in External Hot Keys. PS2 - $4.99
Microsoft PS2 Intelli Mouse - OEM - $8.00
Samsung SW-252FEN 52x32x52 CDRW - $35.99
Creative Webcam NX - $30.00
Cooler Master DP5-5G11B AMD - $5.00
Multimedia Microphon - $1.00

Total - $258.97 ($ 288.86 including shipping)
If i choose the extended warrenty on the items it comes out to a little over $300.

So how does this sound ? i know i havnt included a videocard and im hoping to get a second hand gf4 or radeon 8500 from anandtech forums so i can try and get her hooked on some games :D

Let me know please. I need to finalize this soon.

Cut the webcam? Up the processor to 1700+ if you can, it's only $5 more on newegg LTIC.

*edit

Seems they don't sell the 1700 anymore

Try the 1800 thoroughbred. It's about 52. Will last a little longer than the 1.33

Also a DVD-ROM drive (or get a combo DVDROM/CDRW). It's a good thing to have. I also second a decent optical mouse -- do you think *she's* going to clean out that ball? ;)

Asus A7N8X

128 meg GeForce 4 TI4200
40 gig Seagate Barracuda
40 gig maxtor
48*24*48 Samsung CDRW

I agree with Nick1985 except I would use the Asus A7V8X-X M/B. Not near the problems with the audio drivers, my opinion. This way it will last at least 3 years for her. You might look at the ATI 9000 Pro if the money is there.

Yes, I must chime in here...where is the mobo??? Sorta important. Also, I would not go with that choice of CPU. AMD XP1800+ Retail so it comes with a 3 year warranty AND HSF. Unless you happen to have an extra copy of an OS laying around I didn't see that mentioned in your list either.
