buiding a new rig what do you think of these specs?

Hi guys this is my first post on AT and i am fairly new to all this, i am planning on building a rig in a couple of weeks, i am trying to stick to $3000 AUD (yes i am in Australia). the main use for the new rig will be gaming so gaming performance is important. i have been doing some research and this is what i came up

Motherboard DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR
CPU AMD Athlon64 x2 3800
RAM 2 X Corsair Value Select PC3200 1024Mb/1Gb Module
Video Card XpertVision GF 7800GT 256MB
Case Antec SLK3000B
HHD Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250GB
DVD writer Pioneer 110 Dual Layer 16x DVD+-RW OEM
Sound None onboard
PSU Antec Smart Power 2.0 500w PSU
Monitor Hyundai L90D+ 8ms 19" LCD
Speakers Logitech Z-5300e

any advice would be greatly appreciated, the current system total comes to 2895 so it is around how much i want to spend. thanks for all the help 🙂

Well i can give you advice on the z-5300e, they rock. The bass can shake the room if you put it really high up. Truly great speakers for the $138US. But you need at least an audigy 2 zs for it to really bring it.

There has been reported some incompabilites with Corsair Value and DFI boards, don't know if it's still a problem.

SLI isn't worth it unless you're getting two cards(ultra-high end) from the beginning
CPU AMD Athlon64 x2 3800
RAM OCZ Value/EL Platinum 2x1GB
Video Card eVGA GF 7800GT 256MB
Case Antec SLK3000B
HHD Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250GB
DVD writer BenQ DW1640
Sound None onboard

A few things!!

1) Why does that cost 2895???

2) The case is great but the side vent with the duct will not be compatablite with sckt 939 mobos....

3) I wouldn't get that power supply, IMO....I would look at something a bit better. I dont get you ppl you splurge on all sorts of items an dgo cehap on ram and power supply...what gluttens for punishment

4) I agree with DavidoFoo above on some of his suggested changes...

1. 2895 is in Australian dollars (which is roughly 2171 US dollars) still expensive compared to what you'd pay for the same system in the US but cant do much about that unfortunately.

2. thanks i didnt know that i will do a bit more research

3. 🙂

4. yes actually i agree with DavidoFoo but why the BenQ DW1640?

actually dfi nforce 4 boards dont do well with any value memory if i recall. i would go to www.dfi-street.com for recommendations on hardware. i would wait for revision 2 if i were you the first dfi sli dr had lots of problems is why i got rid of mine. also dfi crossfire board will be out i dont know if your interested in that or not.

get 2x512 ocz plat rev. 2 pc3200. im with duvie on the value ram. with a nice computer like that, why get crap ram. also, 2gb is a TOTAL waste, and i mean TOTAL. get a fortron psu. like a 450w or something.

Would you guys recommend the MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum SLI instead of the DFI board? also if OCZ memory wasnt available to me and the VS is not a good choice would you consider Corsair TWINX 3200C2 2048Mb/2Gb KIT (2x1024Mb) in the DFI or the MSI board?
