The Bugatti is powered by a W16 quad-turbo engine making 1000bhp and mated to an AWD drivetrain. It weighs about 4000lbs.

The Porsche is powered by a flat-six bi-turbo engine on a RR platfrom making about 470bhp. The car weighs about 3000lbs.

Absolutely amazing pull by the Veyron. Although a nice showing for a two decade-old car. It was basically the fastest car of the time excluding the sledgehammer vette.

I am more amused by the ignorant comments than the video ;)

results aren't surprising but the RUF was just as legendary in its heyday 20 years ago as the Veyreon is now.

Not much of a contest...Still, I'm not a big fan of a 4,000lb porker like the Veyron. Give me a smaller more nimble car anyday.

I think the RUF looks better though. The Veyron looks like it should be in Star Wars.

The guy in the Porsche is Adam, I believe the car belongs to his dad. In a Fifth Gear episode where Tiff went to some sort of top speed content, Adam drove Tiff in the Porsche, I think it hit over 190MPH.

Decade-old? Try TWO decade-old. The CTR Yellow Bird hit the streets in 1987.

The big difference here though is that the Veyron is almost impossible to drive on the street. Poor visibility, wide, not very maneuverable, etc. The Ruf, however, can be driven every day.

And that is exactly why I refuse to buy one. :)

Yeah, me too. The Veyron is nice when you need to go over 200mph, but my Yugo is way easier to park at Wal-Mart.

Really? I thought we refused to buy one because we could never possibly afford it.

have any of you watched the top gear movie where jeremy, in a veyron, races hamster, in a Cessena 172 (IIRC)? i think you guys may be underestimating the driveability of the veyron...

They've got a LOT of money. I remember a thread on BMWM5.com where they said they didn't consider someone earning less than $20M per year to be wealthy.

Yeah, my mistake. I was in a rush at the time and apparently cannot do simple math.

The Yellow Bird is still awesome.

Where is the Carrera GT RUF variant.... that thing should race the Bugatti.

Well, the point was more that the cars have different reasons for existing.

The Veyron is a magnificent engineering tour-de-force. It puts VW/Audi on the map and very clearly states what their engineering staff is capable. As a machine, it's simply incredible. It is built to be put on a pedestal for display as an engineering masterpiece (and it most certainly is an engineering masterpiece).

The Ruf, like all Ruf cars, was built to be an incredibly capable car that is still practical to drive every day. It was built to be driven.
