Any of you bug folks able to identify this spider? It's currently hanging outside my bedroom window, I figure it has a real name as opposed to me just calling it: "Garden variety spider" :)

Agh! I can't remember the name. Hold on.

On another note, I ran into one of those while walking through a field once. I nearly sh!t myself.

Edit: LOL, well.. that was easy.

It's called a Yellow Garden Spider, Argiope Aurantia.

Yeek! I hope that's just a magnified picture, cause that's one scary looking spider.

Yeah, that's what I've been calling it too. Just curious if anyone knows the real name. :)

I've also been known to call it a "Free bug zapper" when grilling on the back porch. :)

I used to have those all the time in my OLD backyard. They're called "Golden Garden Spiders" and can be recognized by a zig-zag pattern in their webs. I don't think they are venomous at all.

:D Free bug zapper works too. ;)

See my edited post above for their name. Garden Spider is pretty close, though.

Indeed, it seems that Golden Garden Spider is common, too.

Also "Yellow and Black Garden Spider" .. lol..

I seen one of these before when I was away on vacation, one of these were outside of the hotel. It was about 2 - 3 inches long, I am very scared of spiders, but yet I acually was holding my finger about 1 inch above it to freak out some friends (as creepy as that may sound) .. LOL

Oh, and if I were you I wouldnt feel to great with it hanging outside your window

We had them here too. There are huge and look so cool.

They can bite real good to, but I have never been bitten though.
