Just when I began to think the only bug in TurboTax is spyware, now this:
If one received a state tax refund in 2001, in some cases TurboTax 2002 Georgia will ASSUME that you applied the refund towards 2002 estimated taxes. In other words, it will include the amount as part of your 2002 tax payment. If you actually received a check from the state of Georgia in 2001, obviously this is wrong.
I was initially informed of this error by a CSR at the Georgia Income Tax Division and later I confirmed it with my own return (I have already e-filed before discovering this error!!!)
If you have not filed, I guess you can manually remove the amount from Form 500 within TurboTax.
If you have filed, the Georgia Income Tax Division supposedly will send you a discrepancy notice and hold any refund check until you call them. I'm not sure what will happen when you owe them money anyway, or as the result, will owe them money. Doesn't TurboTax have some kind of guarantee for errors in the return?
