There is a great Chinese buffet by my office. I have to show some serious restraint whenever I drive by it at lunch. $6 including a soda and it is sooooo good.

Am I the only one grossed out by buffets? I mean, just the general idea of them. All those people sticking their grimmy little hands in the food. And the kids, don't get me started on the kids at a buffet... Then there's the food just sitting there, getting crusty and you have no idea if the hot food is hot enough, or the cold food is cold enough.

I guess I've attended too many food safety courses.

After being at college for the past 3 years and eating at the dining halls I can eat anything from anywhere it seems.

But yeah, you are the only one grossed out. How can you pass up mountains of foor for a few bucks?

Who cares if you get sick! It's cheap and tastes good.

No you're not the only one. As someone who eats lunch on a regular basis with the guys in Foodborne Illnesses here at the CDC, buffets are not high on my list of places to eat. ;)

Plus, I'm just put off by having to reach around something called a "sneeze guard" to get my food. yecccch.

Do you really think they wash the lettuce? (or their hands?)

The salad dressings are LOADED with fat, salt and sugar.

Will somebody please tell Amused and Fausto to STFU before they ruin it for the rest of us? Geez. Successful buffet dining demands that one not think about that kind of thing.

Hey, I'm just doing my job. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, remember? I would be remiss in not pointing out that buffets are festering petrie dishes for the most part. ;)

you could say that about any prepared/restaurant food:p

as for fat and salt, whatever. its not like eating a huge steak no matter how you cut it:p fresh salad full of nutrients(fat depends on which dressing you pick, cream = worse) or a burger from dennys. i think fresh choice still wins.

Well, YOU said it. If you are too lazy to prepare your own . . .

. . . I'm off to prepare (read: really wash) my own organically grown lettuce and a Caesar dressing . . .

:)

well i *could* prepare just a ceaser, but thats just one salad out of many. at a buffet you also have a variety of preprepared salads. and you have to admit, the veggies at a fresh choice are generally a lot fresher then the stuff at say hometown buffet or whatever.

Ceasar is my "salad of the day" . . . lot's more dressings nearly ready in the 'fridge. Plus fresh veggies (tomatoes, brocolli, 3 kinds of sprouts, green and red onions, 3 kinds of lettuce, avocados, corn, peas, cucumbers - I gott look to remember more), cole slaws, 3-4 cheeses including 'veggie', sunflower seeds and croutons.

Plus I KNOW where my hands have been. :D

Hometown Buffet . . . *gag* enough preservatives to embalm a corpse.

In an "emergency", I eat at the Soup Plantation.

My pet tapeworm likes buffets. I should take him out sometime!
Preservatives are good, too. They ensure that my tapeworm and I will still look young when we die our early deaths.
Maybe we'll meet a new tapeworm friend at the buffet for my pal! ;)
