Buffer Underrun - Ricoh MP7120A - HELP!

Ok i am starting to get really angry.. I have gone thru endless CD's trying to get this thing to spit out a full burn good copy. I was reading up on it and found out DMA had to be enabled, b4 that time I had not enabled it. I thought it would fix the problem so I tried to burn after i enabled DMA and restarted. SAME DEAL! when I try to burn at 12X I keep getting a buffer underrun message. I have not even tried lower speeds.. what's the point? it's designed to work at 12X right? I am using Verbatim and Kodak Ultima CD's. neither will burn successfully and both support 12X writing. I think there is a new firmware out for it but I cannot find any info on it or where I can get it. Do you actually think the new firmware would make it possible for me to burn CD's? Also I am using the bundled software "Prassi Primo CD plus" just because it is sold with the product and most likely should work with it. I really need some help this is very frustrating, I have faith in U guys! someone help please!!

Although I am not using the same setup as you, I have been getting the same error when trying to burn a Norton AV CD with my HP 9110i using Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4. I was able to successfully burn other stuff, like WIN2k for example. I have wasted 4 CDR's at this point...

The errors I am getting:

T0100: I/O error (6C/C5/00) - Write error - buffer underrun occured
T0100: I/O error (6C/C5/00) - Write error - buffer underrun occured
T7127: TrackWriter - Flush Failed
T7118: TrackWriter - Command retry failed

I notice that you are overclocking. What happens when you downclock to 933 to keep the PCI in spec? Are you able to burn correctly then?

There really are too many variables to acually pin point your problems to any 1 specific fix...alot depends on what programs are running in the background, best to do a ctrl+alt+del and close out everything, make sure no screen savers are active, defrag your harddrive, make sure ya got updated software and drivers for your burner, try copyin to the hard drive first then burn to cd....if all that don't work try a different software package, Nero is suppose to be good, I've never used it but many people prefer that over Adaptec, for backing up my CD's I use CloneCD which works very well for me, but there I'm not sure if your drives are supported by CloneCD, you'd have to check their website and see before ya try. I don't know how you have your burners are setup in your systems, some people have better luck with the burner on 1 IDE channel and CD-ROM on the other channel others both on same channel, that could be an issue there, very hard to say....all I can say is good luck, maybe someone else can throw ya different options to try.

OMG this is ridiculous.. With the help of a guy from StorageReview.com we figured out the DMA on my motherboard is not working at all. That would explain the bad Sandra numbers and CD copy times. burning at 12X with a IDE burner is CRUCIAL for DMA to be on. CD's burn perfectly at speeds 6X and under.. I am going to pickup a CUSL2 later this week, I want 12X! funny I had tried everything else too, new ribbons, other channels, ATA/66 cables, latest firmware, different programs, diff. BIOS settings, I tried everything only to find out my beloved Soyo mobo is at fault.... LOL

thx for the help though guys... appreciated!
