I like to thank who ever can provide me with solutions to this annoying problem. I have been using a yamaha 2100ez with nero for about 1 year now. at the beginning the drive is fast but noisy and never made a coaster. most recently upgraded to nero 5564 and then 5572 and have been having problems with making coasters when burning at 16x but not consistently at 12x. does not matter which brand of cdrs that I use. this is frustrating and since it does not have burnproof and uses 8mb buffer instead why is this problem just happening now and not before. Is this a sign that the drive is dying. I admit I do lots of burning already did about 2 spindles of 50 or more since got the drive. it did not use to have this many problems and latest have made more coasters with last 2 tries than I have made in 1 year. thanks for your prompt attention.

Another thing to try and avoid is using the PC while it is burning, or stop any programs that start up automatically, like Fast Find, or antivirus scans. These rob the PC of resources that can disrupt the steady flow of data to the cd-rw drive during the burn process.

i have the same model and running in winxp with nero 5.1 that came with the drive, and everything is fine. i've burned about 500cds and no problem so far.
i think you should call them up before your warranty is up and get a replacement.
