Hi,

I know that if your writer doesn't support burnprove, and you have a buffer under/over run, you have a f$$ked up CD. However if I first make a copy of a CD to my HD and my reader produces a buffer under/overrun, does this give problems also?

Yes...a buffer underrun under any situation creates a "coaster". If you are caching to the hard drive before burning, and you are still getting errors, then you should consider shutting down all programs and leaving the computer alone while you are burning.

What system do you have?

I've just bought a nice Plextor 12/10/32 :). And I'm using a Toshiba DVD 1212 as a reader. But when I read a CD with CloneCD, I sometimes see that there are bufferunder/over runs. Now to make it completely clear: it's the reading I'm worried about, NOT the writing. I just want to know if a CD image on the HD can be corrupt because of the bufferunder/over runs during reading.

Clonecd often misinterprets errors. It will state a buffer under/overrun even when its not. I wouldnt put too much faith in that program. Try cdrwin. Its a much better program and supports burnproof and well worth the dough.

Well, I agree CDRwin is also a pretty good program. But still, that doesn't answer my question. Lets say I use CDRwin to make the cd image to the HD. And my reader gets those bufferunder/over runs. Will this give a corrupted cd image on the HD?

AndyHui answered that question in the very first reply post in this thread...even though his answer is only about 12 inches away from mine :) this is a quote:

"Yes...a buffer underrun under any situation creates a "coaster". If you are caching to the hard drive before burning, and you are still getting errors, then you should consider shutting down all programs and leaving the computer alone while you are burning."

Can't get much more clear and concise than that.. :D

When you copy data to the hard drive, you won't get any buffer underruns that make the data bad or unusable. It will copy the data over fine. Buffer Underruns are bad when you are burning because the CDRW has to be constantly writing. Copying data from a cd to the hard drive will not give you problems, I've never even heard of a buffer underrun from a cd reader.
