yeah, just grab them and run... have fun overclocking while seeing the price went up, these ram have good investment value. Won't lose much money after 1-2 years, unlike video cards that cost 500 today only worth 100 after 2 years.

Pffft...in 2 years DDR3 will be th standard and these won't be worth anything.

Right, because good DDR isn't worth anything now.

No, it's just retarded to call any computer component a "good investment". Hah. Like you could plan on buying this and sell it 2 years later for the same price. OK, maybe (?), but hardly a good investment.

Lucky...gotta agree with you. The assertion that one can buy any computer component, this RAM or any other part, for its investment potential is just silly. If you want investment potential in anything, buy stocks or bonds.

On the other hand, the assertion that this memory will instantly become worthless when DDR3 arrives is, too, asinine. While it may devalue this RAM a bit, it certainly will not devalue it to the point it's worthless....again, just like with plain DDR, there's just too large a user base already built for it and not everyone upgrades to the latest and greatest parts out there....despite what you see on these forums. Gotta remember, what you see here are the early adopters.....not the typical user.

Maybe I should tell my story again. I bought my 2gb kit of g.skill hz (the good overclocking stuff) on ebay back when memory was cheap (about a year and a half ago) for $130 shipped. I sold the same kit of memory last month (used) for $220 + shipping on Ebay. If you wait until prices are rock bottom you can actually "invest" in DDR memory.

The same may not hold true for DDR2 though, due to the fact that faster DDR2 is constantly being introduced (PC2-8000, PC2-8500, PC2-8800, etc.) whereas DDR1 didn't go much past pc4000 (I've seen 1gb kits of PC4200, but thats about as high as I've seen).

DDR2 price drop again this week - firesticks at $169.99 AND IN STOCK - temping to get even though i have some micron based stuff that clocks ddr1000 laxed timings at low volts and ddr900 4-4-4-4 at 2.4 - its just the heat spreaders...or thats what i'll tell myself...

Please explain because as far as I know FSX800D2C-K2G has been the part number from the start of this hot deal. And just so you know the, if they were FSX800D2B-K2G it would be an even hotter deal because they would have the same Memory ICs found on the DDR2-1000. And bump for a good deal.

Exactly right, nicepun. The kit has always been the 800D2C's. There are some "B" kits around, but only found on Buffalo's website and they want over $350 for the set.

But, StumbelBum1, there has been no change at all in the kit's part number since I first posted this deal. Good to see it has dropped even more, though. :)

They're down to 163 now. I placed an order for a set yesterday, and Newegg credited the difference. Good stuff. I hope theyre still shipping same good memory.

sorry my bad ..
I thought this thread was about the FSX800D2B-K2G with runs stock at 4-4-4 ..So i guess it is hit or miss then if you think they are not binning the sticks

How did they credit the difference? Did you call them or send an email?

Wow, at THIS price you gotta wonder when the Elpida chips will finally show up somewhere besides MicroCenter.

Then again, this could be nearing the end of the big RAM "dump" due to excess inventories built ahead of Vista's release.

This kills me.... I did however pick up the Geil kit with the orange spreaders because these were out of stock constantly and they run at 1000 NP 5 5 5 15 2.2v.

You guys think this new batch is the same type? Ive been reading on different forums how these are revision C and not like the other ones that were being sold. I bought another 2gigs last night, and getting kinda worried it might not be the same type of memory. Any insight on this? Thanks.

From what I understand, this was always the C revision. The B revision contains D9-GKX, the C revision contains D9-GMH. However, whether or not Buffalo has been intentionally using low-bin GMH in the last couple of weeks remains to be seen. It seems like there have been more complaints about underclocked Ram from people who ordered in the last two weeks, but maybe that's just me. I have yet to try and overclock the ram I ordered about 16 days ago, but I'll give a report here when I do.

I got a pair of the Firestix a week ago when they briefly came back in stock and am returning them. They will not run at their rated speed at 2.1V. Buffalo tech support said they should and didn't like it that I had to run them at 2.2V to get any stability even under their rated speed. They said I should RMA them since they seemed defective.

They were unstable at any speeds over around 790 even when I cranked up the voltage and set the loosest timings I could give them. They sure weren't running like the reviews I had been reading said they would. But they run perfectly fine under 790. Unfortunately that didn't cut it.

I got tired of screwing with them and have another brand coming to replace them.

Man, this is what Im worried about. I wouldnt even want them if this was the case. The problem is Newegg charges 15% restocking fee so returning them would be out of the question, unless I was willing to take a 25dollar loss.

Many people at Newegg are claiming that their sticks are rated at 667 by multiple programs. I think the newer batches aren't as good as the older ones. I guess I will be purchasing other stuff.

That's called default SPD timings and speed to make the sticks compatible with most mobos.

 I emailed Buffalo support and asked them why the PC2 6400 Firestix show up as PC2 5300. Here is the email I received from them.

The IC's on the FSX800D2C-K2G are currently Micron (PC2-5300) 667 Mhz
memory chips running at 1.8 or 1.9 Volts. If you increase the voltage
as recommended to 2.1 Volts, it will run at the proper 800 MHz. These
are native 667 Mhz chips, that have been binned or rated to the higher
quality used for Firestix. The modules are programmed to 667 MHz to
allow the enduser to open the BIOS and set the voltage to 2.1 V and the
memory to 800 MHz, or faster.

Not really, it's a very common practice by ALL manufacturers.
