Buffalo AirStation Turbo G (WHR-HP-G54)

The Fry's ad for Chicago shows this item (at least description and picture shows it) for $39.99AR. I'm not seeing tremendous results from my AirLink+ router (Fry's house brand). The routing on the AirLink+ sucks because it induces some high latencies - fixed by using a computer for a router. So, currently using it (disabled DHCP) as just a hub and AP. Well, computers seem to occasionally drop connection and after a while find the AP again. Being that the router part wasn't too impressive, I'm thinking of just replacing the whole thing.

This Buffalo device has an external switch to make it a normal AP, plus "Uniquely equipped with a built-in signal amplifier, the WHR-HP-G54 produces a true 60% increase in wireless transmit power over a standard 802.11g wireless router."

Assuming that the one Fry's has is indeed this one then is it a good wireless router to have? Anyone have experience with this particular model? TIA.

Well, I can't give you any advice on that specific model but I have found Buffalo Tech products to be very solid.

I have a Buffalo wireless card in my system and it is stable, and powerful, added an ext. antenna on a 4 foot lead and my AP's typically are 96-100% available, very nice indeed.

I have installed a couple of Buffalo wireless routers in the past. Nice products, rock solid. No complaints from the end user. I say go for it, but check out reviews and see what the NewEgg rating might be first. Always smart to play it safe.
