Buffalo AirStation replacement

Hi all,

My AirStation WHR-G54S died several months back (entirely thru my own fault), and I'd been planning to buy an identical model (or it successor) as a replacement when needed, but I just read today about the injunction against Buffalo Technology selling their Wireless equipment.

So, could anyone recommend a good wireless router in a similar price range (~$40-80) that can use custom software (DD-WRT or Tomato), and is not a Linksys. ; )
No gaming or similar high-throughput activities will be done -- just need good reliability for working-from-home.

thanks much..

Well, for a clone of the Buffalo WHR-G125, the Asus WL-520GU is it. Same CPU, RAM & Flash. Can run DD-WRT without a problem and is a bit easier to install it on. It also has a USB port which the very latest version of DD-WRT has support for. It's currently $45.50 plus shipping at mwave.com (where I ordered mine.) It also has a $10 MIR which saves you a few more dollars. I've had my 520-GU since January IIRC and haven't had a problem with it at all. It's been running RC6.2 since then and is very stable. 🙂

You could easily go to the DDWRT forums and look at their hardware compatibility chart, then reverse-reference that with the features you want.

Thanks much for the responses -- Asus WL-520GU sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.

jaqie - I certainly could, but I was looking more for subjective opinions on the subject than hard data.

I wasn't trying to be rude in my response -- just explaining why I didn't follow your suggestion. Thank you for it, though... ; )

This is all great stuff.....I'm trying to get an education with home networking and I've learned much to date on this forum. However....(here comes the stupid question)...what is DD-WRT an acronym for?😱

Not sure what, if anything, it's an acronym for, but what it is:
"DD-WRT is free Linux-based firmware for several wireless routers"
Link

Enjoy! ; )
