i have a X2 6000. I want to upgrade to play Diablo III next year.

microcenter:
i see i3's for $99 w/free mobo.
and i5's for $150 with $60 off a Z68 mobo.

What's a good budget cpu/mobo upgrade to my X2 6000 cpu? (already have 4GB DDR3-1333 ram)

If your on a tight budget the I3 is a good choice, it handles most games really well, and is a huge upgrade over your dated X2 6000. Depending on what your video card is and what resolution your gaming at there may be no benefit of moving to an I5.

I've got the X2 6000 and I3 2100 compared here.

video card is radeon 4850.

thx for the benchmark!
hm.. it uses 1680 x 1050 for game resolution?

my monitor is 1920 x 1080, and i'm hoping to play Diablo III in that resolution w/the Radeon 4850?

how much are you looking to spend?

I3 and gtx 460 or radeon 6850 should run d3 at max settings.

cant say for sure since its not out yet but sc2 can run on ultra with a i3 and a 460.

SC2 and WoW runs perfectly on a 4850 and combine that with an intel 3 you'll have no problems running D3. Seems like you ain't picky just want the best bang for the buck and save your video card (which is still decent)

I don't think Diablo 3 will have hardcore system reqs. Knowing blizzard

Might as well grab the I3, your gpu is going to be your bottleneck in basically any game at that resolution. Should still handle D3 and other games on lowered settings, and still give you plenty of cpu power for when you do upgrade your video card.
