Since most threads in this forums seem to be geared towards high end, expensive choices, I thought I'd ask your advice on cheap HDTVs.

I'm primarily looking for a 32-37" TV that will be primarily used for PS3, XBox 360 and some cable HDTV viewing. I already have a nice 50" Sammy that I love, but my GF kicks me off it because she doesn't want to "watch me play video games all night".

Basically, I need a HDTV that will let me experience my beloved consoles in HD without breaking the bank.

What brands should I be looking at that are cheap, but still offer good picture and reliability? Also, if you know any current deals, please let me know!

thanks.

If you want tier-1 Japanese brand name you'll be limited for the most part to 32-inch & 720p. I've seen Toshiba and Samsung models within your budget & you might also find a Sharp if you get lucky. For mainly gaming use I would go with Sharp and for overall picture quality Toshiba (uses 10-bit panel) but any of these three will be reliable & have an excellant picture.

If you are willing to consider "no-name" TV's I would only go with Olevia ... they offer by far the best picture quality of the low-end brands & in fact come pretty close to the Japanese brands mentioned above. If you keep your eyes open you may be able to grab a 37 inch Olevia within you budget, or you can save some nice cash on a 32. (I have an Olevia 532H in my kitchen & I paid $459 .. I've seen the 537H for right around $650)

Thanks for the input guys.

I ended up getting in on an extremely good deal on an Olevia 32" 720p TV, $438. I would have loved to get in on the 42" 1080P TV RossMAN linked to, but a $438 32" 720p is perfect for what I was trying to do (PS3, Xbox 360, some cable TV).

The only thing I dont like about the Olevia is that it only has 1xHDMI and 1xComponent inputs. That's going to put a serious strain on what kind of devices I hook up to it.

How much does a decent HDMI splitter go for? Is there such a thing for component?

Good price ... the limited input situation on the 2-seris Olevia's and the olders 5's is the main reason I went with the 532H which has 2x HDMI (with seperate analog-audio input for both) & 2x component as well. Picture quality should be the same though & thats what really counts.

For an HDMI switch, you can take a look at Monoprice for a decent selection at fair prices ... they have very good deals on cables too.

I purposely didnt state where I got it from because i doubt anyone else would be able to get in on it. I got it at Target and basically what happened was they have a 42" 1080P Olevia that is 20% off, but were sold out and had substituted the 32" Olevia to bring it down 20%. Plus I opened a Target credit card which gave me an additional 10% off, so the Olevia 32" which was not originally on sale, I got for 30% off.

Thanks for the link. $40 for a 4x1 switch isn't bad at all, considering target and best buy want over $100 for a 3x1 switch.
