Budget Truck Rental. It simply stinks.....

Just to start off with, I have moved 3 times in the past three years. So I have rented a truck a time or two for moves. Finally purchased a house so hopefully I won't have to move for at least another 5 years.

On Nov 26th, I went online and reserved a moving truck for Dec 18th. I figured this was PLENTY of time for a truck reservation. Two weeks went by and there were no phone calls from Budget saying there might be a problem.

On Dec 18th(Saturday), I showed up when the truck rental store opened. I was told there were no trucks. I looked at the guy dumbfounded. He said that all five reservations for that day were without trucks. On Thursday, Budget had come and taken all his for another location. He said that he had called corporate trying to get some trucks but had no luck. He recommended that I call and raise some hell.

I called Budget and they transfer you to their truck locator specialists. Well they don't work on weekends. So basically, I needed to move and there wasn't a truck for me to use.

I called all the usual suspects, Uhaul, Penske, etc.

No one had any trucks that late of notice.

Luckily I thought I remembered seeing a sign about Lowes renting trucks for $20 for 75 minutes. I went to Lowes and rented a truck. For every 15 minutes past 75 minutes, I had to pay an extra $5. It ended up costing me $100. The truck was about 7-8ft long truck that wasn't covered. Thank god it wasn't raining.

It took about 10 trips to move all my stuff but I got it done. I plan to write Budget a nasty letter. I sure as hell won't rent a car or truck from them ever again. And considering that I have to rent cars when I go on travel for work, they will lose a decent amount of money just from my business.

Cliff Notes:
Reserved a rental truck with Budget
They didn't have one
Got screwed on my move
Lowes saved my butt with a tiny rental truck

I reserved a Budget truck (the largest they had, I think it was 21') online, and confirmed it over the phone. I also called the local place the evening before the morning I moved.

I got there, and like you, they said they didn't have any trucks. I was like... uhhh... I am moving this morning, and I confirmed yesterday. Where is my truck that I PRE-PAID for? They said they were sorry and to call 1-800-BUDGET or whatever it was.

The only truck they had was a 16' one, so I took it instead and they gave me 50 free miles... whoopty do. Everything worked out and everything fit in it... but it could have been much worse.

Oh well... I don't know if all rental places are as bad, or if I just picked a bad day or what.

Sooo... you are not alone.

I don't think I've ever had a problem with UHaul. It's been a couple years since I've had to use them though.

The last UHaul truck I was in had a bench seat that was not attached to the floor because of rust. It was an interesting ride.

I rented from uhaul and they cancelled the reservation 2 days before our move, when we had reserved it a month or two in advance. We had to raise hell, and then only got it for a few hours. I think all vehicle moving services are bad.

Kinda makes me glad I decided to buy a trailer and just haul everything to my new place. Cost a little bit more, but I would have killed somebody if that happened to me.

I moved once with Penske. It was the best experience possible. Penske just wouldn't offer a truck for a local move during the weekend.

I rented a truck from U-haul for $19.99.. Total came out to be around $50 after tax.. It was good experience for me, because we had no problems.

Took about 4 trips to get everything moved...
