Budget Router?

I'm in the process of switching from att to spectrum and never had to use a router but between the att cancellation fee and spectrum start up fee i'm on a budget and was wondering if there any decent routers at or under 20 dollars on ebay or amazon ?

I got fed up paying 100 for 5 mpbs from att and wanted a better service and better price.

Great recommendations, @JackMDS , I was just going to recommend that Asus RT-N12/D1 myself. It's only a 10/100 router, as far as wired ports go, so for higher-speed internet (faster than 100Mbit/sec, most providers now besides DSL), it's not optimal, but it's very versatile, there are like 5+ 3rd-party firmware builds that you can flash on there. (I like AdvancedTomato.)

With 3rd-party firmware, it's capable of QoS, VPN, and ad-blocking for the entire LAN.

That said, I'm currently using one of Asus's higher-end routers, an RT-AC68U family device. Those can be purchased refurbished for under $100 (closer to $80-90 right now), on ebay from several vendors. (*AVOID THE TM-AC68U, those are the variants with T-Mobile branding/firmware "personal cell spot", and they will REVERT to T-Mobile firmware, if you attempt to flash the newest stock Asus firmware to them. Pretty sneaky of Asus.)

The AC1900 / AC1900P is from the same family, and is sometimes cheaper, as the name is less recognizable as an "AC68U" (which is a fairly famous router name).

Those are also very versatile, and very high-performance, they will router gigabit fiber internet connections, and take various 3rd-party firmwares. (Which can be more difficult to flash, once you flash a newer Asus firmware onto them, from the last year or two.)

If you get to keep your AT&T unit and it has a wan port that's ethernet like on our pace 5268ac, you can just run your spectrum connection right into your at&t router and not have to pay a dime for a new router. 🙂 Just be sure to reconfigure anything as needed on the AT&T and you'll be all set. 🙂

I did the AT&T to Spectrum switch several months ago The speed was astounding... 450 mbps download, 20 upload. Problem was staying connected. Had to reboot the router several times daily. The problem turned out to be the crummy cable modem Spectrum gave me. Finally bought my own Arris SurfBoard modem and all's well. I already had a pretty good LinkSys router.

Our pace 5268ac was on par with the comcast/xfinity router combo that my wife loved so much for its wifi speeds. She never had any trouble getting 150Mbps (our rated speed) on her itoys.
