Hi guys,
One week before I was about to purchase my godly pentium system for $2300 Aussie (approx $1300 US) I changed me mind in that I'd rather save for a car. But I really would like a pc even just to get the experience in building one and to have a a general gaming machine. Now I know easily enough about how to build an awesome p4 rig but damn I never knew athlons were so cheap! So I am gonna build an athlon pc. I was a hardcore intel supporter but screw that, I want a bargain!
All I know with regards to AMD systems in that the Nforce2 chipset is the way to go and that Barton 2500's are the awesome value. But in regards to my new system I need a few hints. Remember this is a cheap! system and I don't really give a $&*( about max graphics quality in games. I played Dungeon Siege for months at 12fps and still loved it.
So here it is, the budget rig... let me know what you think...
$155 AMD Gigabyte 7N400-L1 Nforce2 Ultra400
or
$210 AMD Asus A7N8X AGP8X DDR400 motherboard
$167 AMD Athlon? XP 2500+ Processor Retail
or
$185 AMD Athlon? XP 2600+ Processor Retail
$63 DVD LG 16X DVD
$112 2 x DDR 256MB XMS-3200C (400MHz) DDR RAM Corsair
$79 2 x DDR 256M PC3200 DDR RAM Kingmax/Kingston
$85 2 x DDR 256M PC3200 DDR RAM Samsung(life time warranty)
$55 Thermaltake Volcano 11 CPU cooler
or
$40 Thermaltake Volcano 9 CPU cooler
$125 Western Digital Caviar 40G 7200rpm ata 100 HDD(8MB cache)
$249 ASUS 128M AGP-V9280 GF4 8X AGP Ti4200 TV OUT
or
$177 Winfast A340TD FX5200 128MB 8XAGP TV+DVI
or
$193 Radeon 9200 128M Powered By ATI
$188 Midi-Tower ANTEC (USA) LANBOY, Aluminium tower case
or
$90 Deluxe 350W ATX Case(8870KL Transparent)
$60 Keyboard+Mouse
Already have a monitor but this setup ranges from $1047 to $1359 depending on parts.
That equates to about $600-$700 US.
I would prefer the Geforce for dx 9 support as I would like the features of dx9 when the time comes. I also do not need max detail in games. Just a decent frame rate. Minor overclocking is likely but as of now I know absolutley nothing about clocking up athlons cept that they get ~~HOT~~
Thanks in advance for opinions...
