What do people think of this budget PC for my in-laws? I actually need to build 2 (both christmas presents).

Case: IN WIN IW-V523T Black with 300W PS
Price: $37.99

Motherboad: BIOSTAR GEFORCE 6100-M7 Socket 754 NVIDIA
Price: $59.99

Processor: AMD Sempron 64 3000+ Socket 754
Price: $87.00

Memory: Kingston ValueRAM 512MB DDR400 PC3200
Price: $39.95

CDRW: LITE-ON Black 52X CDRW
Price: $21.99

Graphics and Sound both integrated.

Total Cost: $246.92

This will not be used for gaming or anything like that so no need for any higher end graphics or sound card. We currently have a monitor to use for this (will upgrade to a 15 or 17 inch LCD when a good deal comes around).

Is the 300W PS enough for this or should I go with the Cooler Master case here.

Thanks,
Ethan

Yes I will be. I checked out Dell but the cost is not worth it. I would pay $400 for their lowest end PC. I was originally going to buy from them but their $299 low end model costs $100 to ship. Insane.

I like the thought of building it myself since it will be easier to troubleshoot issues and resolve them. Honestly, even with a Dell, they would call me first anyway :)

So are you going to give them a copy of Linux, or a pirated copy of Windows? :D

I think that system looks fine. I have built S754 systems with a 300W PS before with no problems.

You could save a few dollars on the processor but I'm guessing you already know that.

Edit: I've used this case with S754 systems. I've never been disappointed with IN WIN cases though.

That PC isn't available online. And still costs $100 more after MIR's, easier not to have to deal with that.

boomerang, have you used this mobo before? Are you able to do minimal gaming with a setup like this?

Thanks!

No, I've been using Foxconn boards. But I think I'm going to move to another brand. I always have to reset the CMOS to get them to boot initially. I always flash the BIOS because the boards seem to ship with an ancient version and they have the strangest BIOS settings. I don't like having to read the online manual just to get the thing to recognize drives, let me install an OS and reboot. They run great afterwards though. Enough of the Foxcon rant.

These systems are for older folks or people who are never going to game....period. So it's a non-issue for me.

Yeah, the my father and mother in-laws aren't going to game so it's cool for them, but my brother-in-law may want to game at some point. If I throw a graphics card in (I have an old one I used a year ago that was a decent gaming card), that would be enough on top of this right? Maybe add another 512MB of RAM.

From a proc standpoint this would run most games?

Thanks,
Ethan

The system looks perfect for a low end build. Just something that crossed my mind but I dont have an answer. The 3100 is $12.00 more with the extra 128 of cache. I do not know if it will make a difference but someone on these boards might know.
