Because I just prefer Intel processors, I want to build a P4 base system, OC not important . It does not have to be a screamer but I would like to play some games maybe an upper P4 Celeron to P4 2.4 on the high end . Can any give please give me suggestions of processor and motherboard combinations with price being the main consideration . thanks

Look for a SiS655 board. Very cheap and fast eniugh to do what you need. Or SiS648 if you don't want dual Ch memory.

And if you want DOG cheap and prob. very little to no OC, then look at the VIA P4X400

People are dumping 845 boards and 533 FSB CPUs cheap in FS/FT as they move to 865 and 2.xC 800 FSB. These use cheaper PC2700 RAM as well (533) or even dirt-cheap PC2100. If you look at Celeron's awful gaming benches here and at TomsHardware, a used 1.8 or faster P4 is better than a 2.x GHz Celeron.

On the higher end, Abit IS7 at around $100, plus a 2.4C (about as fast as a 2.66 at 533 FSB) or 2.6C and PC3200 RAM.

Abit IS7($100) or Asus P4P800($134), 2x256-> 512mb 3200/KIT HyperX($110) / 3500/KIT DDR HyperX($149) or single stick of 512mb 3200($110) or 3500($120), Intel 2.4C $140(which can overclock to 3GHZ). Pretty cheap if you ask me.
