Budget notebook decision

Can anyone sugest a budget notebook for me. It only needs to do word processing, internet, and the occasional DVD, but i want it to be able to be functional for around 3 years (it's for my mum) Id rather nopt go woth a celeron from a value point of view. any suggestions?

wait for a hot deal on the Dell Inspiron series. Regular price for their base model tend to be around $800 only. Much less when factoring in rebates/discounts they give often.
