Budget Laptop

Hey Guys,

I want a budget laptop, I want to spend as little as possible. I don't care when I get it so I can wait for a sale if you know of any place that has a big sale on them. I want it for wireless internet, flash 8, programming, and everyday stuff. So not for gaming, I got my PC for that. I would like to spend about 350 or less and get a decent machine. If it doesn't doesn't have an operating system that is fine.

Please help,

I can't think of anything brand new, even with the best coupons that will be in your price range. I'd recommend you look for a used laptop off eBay, or a surplus site.

The least you can get a new laptop for is about $400. And even then, it's a POS Toshiba with a half cap battery delivering negative battery life, a screen which will have a line running down it within two weeks, remarkably substanceless construction, and a flat set of buttons that they call a "keyboard."

Spend a little bit more for some more quality. The Compaq V2000/Z series is fine and about $450 is enough depending on the sale you catch.

I second the compaq.

Right now dell has a B130 basic notebook with 1gb ram, dvd/cd-rw, wireless, 40gb hdd, 14" screen for 449 + shipping and tax. It's not a bad deal, with the 1gb of ram.

It's not on their website, but you can get to it with an e-value code that came on one of their catologues that came out a few days back. If you need me to, I can dig that up.

Don't even think about buying a new laptop for that kind of money, instead a used one is the way to go. As I'm sure you're aware IBM has always made high quality products, with the Thinkpad T-series as their flagship. If weight is a concern the Thinkpad X-series may be a good bet even if they lack optical reader (how many uses these on a daily basis?).
