Been around the forums for ages, but this is my first actual build. I thought I'd get some input before I actually click "buy".

The PC is for lots of things, but the most important with regard to performance is gaming (MMO, FPS, the works). My budget is about $600, which the current setup is already at. I'll probably get most, if not all of the parts from Newegg (the source for listed prices), and I'll be using monitor/kb/mouse/speakers from my current PC.

It doesn't have to be AMD, but that seemed like the best choice given my budget. My biggest concern is the balance between the CPU, GPU and mobo while staying within the budget. I might overclock the CPU a limited amount (probably whatever I'm limited to with the stock cooling).

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane 2.1GHz Socket AM2 - $56.99

Mobo - Biostar A770 A2+ Motherboard - $69.99 (-$10 MIR)

RAM - G.Skill 2GB (2x1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 SDRAM - $44.99

Video - EVGA GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit - $189.99 (-$30 MIR)

HD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB - $64.99

Drive - Pioneer DVD Burner Black IDE - $29.99

Case - CoolerMaster Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW - $54.99

PSU - Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC 430W ATX - $40.99 (-$10 MIR)

Total = ~$590 (including shipping, but before MIR)

Any input is appreciated, thanks.

You can get the 4200+ for the same price from the egg here

Also whether it be the 4000+ or the 4200+ it will be a bottleneck for the 8800gt at stock, you'll have to overclock it to at least 2.5 GHz which is possible.

Ah good point. Should I go with the 4800+ instead? I can swing the extra $20 for 2.5GHz. Will that give me more headroom for potential overclocking?

both the 4200+ and 4800+ can hit around 2.8 GHz so it's better to save the $20 and get the 4200+
