At 1024/786, yes it will be. Sounds like your friend won't need alot of AA. Should get about 40-50 frames average for doom 3 with no AA if he overclocks the card a bit.

Nvm, the sweetheart x700 deal is no more. I would change my mind and go back to a 6600GT. The extra 50 bucks is defenetly worth it, as it will be able to handle even future games at half decent fram rates for that resolution.

yes it will run those games. I would rather get the Antec Sonata with the stock power supply though. You pay around the same because of the shipping, and the sonata is generally the better case in terms of looks :).

why not grab a 6600 instead. I'm pretty satisfied with my budget built (500 bucks) and ran 1024x768 on all high settings. That's before..upgrades :D

doom3 (all), farcry, painkiller (all), unreal tourney 2004, return to castle wolfenstein, call of duty (all), c&c (all of them !!!!)

The card I got was the Chaintech Nvidia 6600 256mb (agp), it cost me 139.99 !!!! a few months ago, now it is almost dirt cheap (maybe). Since your friend is not a hardcore gamer, i'm sure he'll be satisfied with the performance.

My experience was that I ran all of the games on high 1024x768 w/ no anti-aliasing. Except for farcry though, I'm not sure I place it on med or high, can't tell the difference. Overall the 6600 card is a great budget card.

Keep in mind, I'm using a sempron 3100+ (@2.069) at the same time lol :D

My scores on this card was (with minor OC 334Mhz/582) three months ago, and the score might be better with the recent driver updates:

3dmark 05:

2439

3dmark 03:

5706

Aquamark3:

35,000

 256 mb card can come in handy in textures...trust me. Painkiller LOOKS sweet when the settings are all on high. The difference the 256 mb card and a 128 version is minimal at best. Heck BF2 ran well also :D (w/ the occassional pagefiling hiccups @_@)

keep the 6600GT, drop the processor to a 3000+Venice, and spend the extra on a better mobo. You may be able to get a good NF4Ultra like a DFIUltra-D or an Asus A8N-E in there.
