BUDGET DECISION FOR VID CARD

hiya folks, need as many comments as quick as poss,
friend in my CS:S clan needs a new graphics card, has around £70 to spend, yep, thats £'s not $'s..lol

simply put as to what i can find available, which is better

Asus V9570GE Geforce FX5700LE 256Mb

or

Sapphire ATi RAdeon 9600 256Mb

those are the two choices due to price constraints....which is more viable?
also which has more chance of being overclocked.....

dont worry about mentioning other products cuz they might not easily be available or for the price we working on.....

cheers folks

1) 256MB on either of those cards is a waste, and actually, many of the 256MB versions use slower RAM, making them a worse choice than the 128MB versions. They're designed for ignorant people who look at the numbers and think "hey, it's got twice as much RAM -- it must be twice as fast!".

2) The R9600 (assuming it's not a 9600SE) would be a better choice for HL2/CS:S.

who is the R9600 by?

edit: u meant Radeon 9600 didnt u..lol......nm, cheers for the info btw
all these cards are way in the past for me....im on what u see in my sig..lol

Radeon 9600xt is about the bottom end card that will still be viable a year from now. See if there is anyway he can come up with a few more pounds or perhaps buy a used card from someone that upgraded.

the 9600 pro/XT is the card to get. My 9600 pro worked HL 2 wonderfully and played all the other games I wanted it to without an hitches. That should last you for a year if you don't mind 1024x768 or 800x600 res.

EDIT** for reference I ran the 128mb version, not the 256.

Neither of these cards is even remotely fast enough to make use of 256 MB RAM. Maybe you can place a swapfile there, dunno.

Get a used GeForce 4 Ti 4x00.

Thats what I ment. Plus the 9600 is one of the best budget cards right now, not to shabby at all in games
