My goal is to build a computer for my 4 year old son to bang away on. This will be used for some simple games geared toward kids. It may be used for some Internet browsing too. I'd like to keep it under $500. I already have a CRT monitor, mouse and keyboard. The CPU will definitely be overclocked :) Here's what I was thinking:

$85 Case: Aspire X-Qpack
$70 Motherboard: Biostar TForce 6100 410
Video: Integrated 6100 chipset
$75 Processor: AMD Sempron 64 2800+
$38 RAM: Patriot 512MB
$58 Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda SATA 80GB
$87 OS: Microsoft XP Home (OEM)
(REMOVED: $40 Power Supply: Fortron Source 400W (12v1 - 18A, 12v2 - 16A) AX400-PN)
Total: $413

Is there anything that should be changed? What do you guys think?

You would be better off buying a used PIII and getting a cheap PCI video card or someting if you just want to run child-oriented games, and as far as I've seen, they're not exactly graphically-intensive. I suggest looking at RetroBox (www.retrobox.com) and getting a nice old PIII Dell or Compaq.

Another vote for Retrobox! Just be aware they take ten business days to ship systems out.

Updated to remove power supply. I'm seeing people overclock with success on the Aspire PS that comes with the case. I'm going to give that a try first.

You're gonna need to add at least an optical drive. Damn hard to install XP Home without one ;)

Might need a modem too, unless you're gonna network it?

Good points. I've got two optical drives laying around so I'll use those. I have no need for modems anymore. Cable Internet is where it's at!

Tell us how that Biostar board turns out. I've had very good luck with other
integrated boards from Biostar...........
