Budget computer upgrade

Hello,

I will be upgrading a friends pc in about a month on a very tight budget. He is very anti overclocking so that is out, and is highly unlikely to want to upgrade the system ever so future proofing is pointless. The aim is to get the best gaming machine for the money.

So I've come up with 2 options that cost the same.

Athlon64 3000 Venice
Abit UL8 939
1GB PC3200 Hynix
Albatron GeForce 6600 256MB DDR2

or

Biostar GeForce 6100-M7 SKT754 Integraged Nvidia GeForce 6100
AMD Sempron 3000+
Geil Value 1Gb PC3200
Sapphire X800GTO² 256mb GDDR3 PCI-E ( I won't be allowed to flash/overclock 🙁 )

Which should I go for or do you have a better system for £300 budget (UK only)?

I would buy Opteron 144 which is almost same price as 3000 Vince, but twice the cache plus mother of overclocking.

What is your price range? We can find things from different vendors. 🙂

This would be the better system for gaming out of the two.

Biostar GeForce 6100-M7 SKT754 Integraged Nvidia GeForce 6100
AMD Sempron 3000+
Geil Value 1Gb PC3200
Sapphire X800GTO² 256mb GDDR3 PCI-E

I've used that RAM myself and know it's decent quality. The X800GTO² will outperform the 6600, just don't play Age of Empires 3 or Black & White 2 until the poor performance is fixed (dunno if it has yet).

Yes I would be tempted by an opteron if it was for someone else but my friend will not overclock anything ever.

price is £300 the first system is from www.aria.co.uk and the second from www.ebuyer.com although I'm hesistant to buy from them but they are cheap.
