Budget Build RAM question - Can I still use PC2100 with this system

episodic

Lifer
Updating my wife's 800 megahertz duron.

I was going to use a Soyo KT 600 motherboard and the Sempron 2200 (1.5 ghz).

One thing I do have in her system now is a gig of pc2100 ram.

I noticed the sempron is a 333 mhz chip.

Will there be any adverse effects continuing to use the pc2100 ram with this processor?

This is a super budget build if you have not figured out 🙂

My super budget build was buying new capacitors for an old Epox 8KHA+, splitting some PC2100 in my dad's system (1x256 in each), and buying a $25 Athlon 1GhZ here on the boards to build a completely new system. Oh, and $20 for a cheap case.

Total cost = less than $50 = My younger brother gets a computer of his own 🙂

🙂 Good luck with your cheapy build!

It would be slightly slower than using 2700 or 3200 on it, but it will work fine. I'm having to use an old stick of 2100 with my athlon 64 until i can afford some decent memory 🙁

Cool thanks for the clarification. I don't think it will be a 'big' issue as the most demanding thing she does is some photo software and the sims. It should be a big upgrade from a duron 800 to say the least.

Soyo KT600 and case/power supply barebone (91 dollars)
Sempron 2200 (48$)
Speeze fan I like (8$) (easy to install fan)
Samsung 40 gig 7200 speed drive (she has a 10 gig Quantum 5400 now). . . (one I got for a trade on some other stuff)
1 gig of RAM (inherited)
Radeon 9000 (newegg has it for under 50$) (her current card is a GeForce 2 GTS) - (45$)
New optical mouse and keyboard (35$ or so)
Plextor CD Writer (45$ at newegg) (she archives stuff all the time, might as well be the best it'll be a good upgrade from her 16x plex writer)
