I am putting together a system for the first time. I have been all over the place in the forums learning everything I can. I have setup this as my system so far.

Conroe 6400
Gigabyte 965P DS3 mobo
EVGA 9700GT vid card
2 gig ram (DONT KNOW WHICH ONE)
DVD -RW (DONT KNOW, NOTHING CRAZY)
Western Digital Caviar SE 250 GB SATA3G 16MB Cache 7200 RPM

I have a case and PSU in route
Ultra Aluminus, and X2 PSU

So if you dont like a part, tell me and give me an alternate. I need input on the ram and Burner->> I will most likely put in 2 of them, unless I can get a DVD/CD read only cheaper. Also I think it needs to have a SATA converter on it due to the 965P only having SATA3 ports

My budget is around $1100 for all the parts, I have the case so dont include that.

DVD Burner, as mentioned -- the ND-3550A
You have the DS3 so I assume you'll be overclocking. Go with the 2GB kit of OCZ Gold PC6400 (DDR2 800)

There is no such thing as SATA3 -- There is SATA2 which operates at 3GB/s

And that PSU really is crap, but if it's already being ordered so be it.
I wouldn't put it in my machine or a clients machine for a second.

Just noticed....Im assuming you are getting a 7900GT and don't have some insider at Nvidia slipping you their 9700GT right?

So banner ads really do work :D

LoL, no but Featured Items do. I was searching high and low for a "Cool" case, because the Lian Li PC7B was not doing it for me, and I saw the ultra with modular PSU all for $100. I posted here, and I got mixed reviews, but the positives were better then the negitives.

Well I call a 1300 PC a budget build... now its not your 800 build but I am cutting back on things like the 9750 vid card, 4mb ram, 4mb Conroe, Raided HD's, seperate Sound card....

Shoot, maybe I want some of that stuff! arg...

YOu know I have thought a a little more. I may want to go with the 6600 not the 6400, and drop the vid card down. I currently have a X700 AGP radeon card, it was kinda fine playing BF2 and COD2 on medium res, so maybe I should throw a 7600 in it, or an ATI equal... Save a $100 on the vid card and add it to the Processor. That will make my OC'ing higher, and keep me from having to upgrade sooner.

G.skill ddr2-800 is also a beast for overclocking. The psu isn't really crap, it's just not one of the most reputable mfgs and probably will not outlast a seasonic, enermax, enhance, fortron etc.

Thats ok for now, if I had unlimited money, I would drop it on the enermax, and get one of those really nice Lian Li $250 cases.
