Budget Build Idea

I got the idea reading about all the posts about Conroe and budget builds so this is my idea. Instead of buying an AMD X2/Opteron you buy a Pentuim D with a better video card? since gaming is GPU dependent the Pentuim D system with a better video card would preform higher in gaming and still and still preform well in mutli-tasking due to dual core.

But, It doesn't stop there you buy a motherboard that supports the Pentuim D processor and the Intel core duo 2(Conroe). Now you have upgradabilty straight to Conroe. When you feel the need to upgrade or you get more money you can buy a Intel core duo 2 processor(Conroe) That essentially would raise your overall system performance quiet a bit.

This is just an idea I thought of recently I haven't competely thought it out but the idea itself seems decent tell me what you think.

I was thinking of doing the same thing using the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA motherboard $58 mentioned in the "Feeding Conroe" article.

My only thought is that a 805D is around $100 and a conroe e6300 is in the low $200 range, seems like quite a step up in power for $100.

True, but not everyone has the extra 100 dollars I guess :) or want a better conroe processor. I know the E6600 is really popular and that's like $316 the 805D is actually supposed to be $93

check out the pricing graph:

edit: they still seem a bit High I predict the pentuim D's will go down in price due ot the AMDs pricecuts.

$93 is the price intel sells the chip to retailers, not the price we are expected to pay. After a markup the price gets closer to $100, $97 at Newegg I believe.

I did the same kind of thing, I waited for price cuts and bought a cheap X2 processor with a more powerful video card. I know the E6300 was only a little more than the 3800+, but the cost of a good Core 2 Duo motherboard is quite steep.

true, but my idea was with a pentuim D with a board that supported both the conroe processor and pentuim d processor. Than they can buy a new processor and have a conroe rig while you have to buy a new motherboard and processor. And If it's a socket 939 X2 than you have to buy ram. even though your rig would be better all they would have to do is buy a conroe processor and it would would be better than yours providing it was the same setup.
