Hi, almost one year after this thread the uncle-in-law asks again for mostly the same things..

Basic web surfing/2D cad.
The AMD one should be on par with the celeron and it has the extra igpu for basic 3D tasks..

I came up with two configurations.. what do you like more?

There are also a couple pre-builts which may fit better:

Do not buy an AMD dual core. Just dont do it. If your budget can not fit a 4 thread cpu, then buy a used machine with a 4 thread cpu. There are plenty of great ones out there, hell you can buy two and use one for parts and still save money.

I'm a little curious... what was the holdup? Did he just not come up with the money last time?

People like that bug me a little, they ask for something, you figure it out, and then they don't seem to care. Then, some while later, rinse, repeat.

Edit: Yeah, don't buy an AMD dual-core (single-module). They are slow.

He ended up getting his daughter pc, which died last week.

That AMD dual core has the same single thread rating and MT rating of the Celeron, according to Passmark (i know.. Passmark..)
