Hello Everyone,

I'm about to put together a machine for my girlfriend, who will use mostly Autocad, Sketchup and some Photoshop. The goal is to build it with 700€, she already has a screen, keyboard and a mouse. She also wants a silver case 🙂

These are the components that I've put together:
( All links point to Compuland, since I will be buying the parts from Germany )

ASRock Extreme P55 S1156 ATX - http://bit.ly/e6gvSO
Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz - http://bit.ly/eDpz0C

for OS - 160GB Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD161GJ 7200U/m 8MB 3,5" (8,9cm) SATA II - http://bit.ly/e0v41I
for STORAGE - 1000GB Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD103UJ 7200U/m 32MB 3,5" (8,9cm) SATA II - http://bit.ly/dXjTFR

This totals at 625€, so there is some room for improvement if I didn't forget anything.

I would be grateful for any comments!

Thank you,

I agree with muskie on the RAM. 8GB will be very nice for AutoCAD.

Also, you should ditch those two HDDs that you have listed and just get a single 1TB Samsung F3. The F3 is faster and cheaper. The 160GB drive won't really help you very much sense it is small and slow.

Doesn't it make sense to keep the OS on a separate drive?

There are some reasons why you might, such as e.g.
A. You have a small fast drive (SSD) that can't hold all of OS/apps/data.
B. Your main app frequently creates or accesses very large files.

But the idea is to put your OS on a fast drive. A 160GB is both old and slow (low density) compared to the F3, and not even in the same league as an SSD.
