Hi there! Based on many hours of research and pain i have decided to go with a DIY rig and move away as far as possible from brand name computers :p I am using the Dell Dimension 9150 Pentium D 930/BTX mobo/case Ok the thing is this next rig would be my first DIY rig and after some thoughts i shall want a mainly multimedia cum lite gaming rig. I have been using Intels all my life so i am thinking of going AMD for my DIY rig @@

Motherboard: Biostar AM2+ 770

CPU: X2 4000 Brisbane

Graphics card : Powercolor 256MB x1950 Pro - Reused from existing computer

160 GB HDD : Reused from existing computer

Optical drives : Reused from existing computer

LCD, mouse, keyboard, speakers : Reused from existing computer

Kingston 2 x 1GB DDR2 667 RAM : Reused from existing computer

Casing: NZXT Alpha

PSU:

OS: XP Home SP 2

The idea is to move to a faster system yet one with great upgrade potential. So i figured i could switch to a B3 stepping phenom and DDR2 800 maybe in the future?

Total Cost of upgrade = USD 269 (for now)
+ recover some from sale of Dell mobo +proc

Is this a worthy upgrade and can u advise my on hardware options and such? Thanks in advance from a greenhorn in DIY :p

Looks decent, my friend. I'd probably go with a FSP power supply, but that's just my brand preference. The only consideration I'd be making here is whether or not that board supports AM2+ because I'd want Phenom support in the long run. If Biostar has no plans to support phenom on that board, get a different board.

Thanks for the heads up nerp ^^ Ok to be honest it was a toss up between these 3 boards:
ECS 770 - Cheapest
Biostar 770 - Good track record in making AMD boards i heard?
Asus M3A 770 - Priciest but not sure worth it, supports 1066 RAM

Then i was also thinking if i could spend that much on an Asus 770 i may as well get
MSI-K9A2-CF ...i would not think that i would be so serious a gamer that i require a crossfire set up but it makes me wonder at that price lol

Keep the suggestions coming ^^
